Proud sponsors of Bro Goronwy Football Club
In summer 2003, a conversation between local football enthusiasts Lee Potter and Barry Wall resulted in a team entering the North Gwynedd & Anglesey Sunday League for 2003/2004 season, taking the name of the local club of the past – Bro Goronwy.
Bro finished 4th in their first season under Potter’s management and, steadily progressing the young local talent, became Sunday League champions in 2005/2006.
In 2006 Bro decided to move into Saturday football, joining the Anglesey League and finished a highly creditable third in their inaugural season.
Remarkably, the next three campaigns were to see Bro compete for the title on the last day of each season. In 2008 Bro narrowly missed out on the crown, Gwalchmai coming top only on goal difference. The following season Goronwy were to again finish runners-up, Pentraeth snatching the honours on the final day.
It was 3rd time lucky when Bro Goronwy became 2010 Anglesey League champions, defeating rivals Trearddur Bay United in a title decider to gain promotion into the Gwynedd League for the 2010/2011 season. The Moelfre based club also lifted the Thomas & Williams and Megan Cups to complete a remarkable treble.
Bro continued their success in the Gwynedd League, being crowned champions at the 1st attempt ahead of runners-up Glantraeth. Playing remarkable attacking football Bro scored 77 goals and were only defeated 3 times in the league all season.
WO Jones has been Bro Goronwy’s main sponsors throughout the teams successful history, from their initial formation to the higher league the club is playing at present. Without this backing from a local supportive business the club would not have been able to match its ambitions of striving forward on and off the field on the North Wales football scene. The players, club officials and supporters would like to thank WO Jones for their generosity and wish them all the best in the future and look forward to continuing a successful relationship for many years to come.
